Dominican Republican: Anti-renegade legislators repelled with tear gas

The debate over a possible project to reform the Constitutionwent to another level yesterday afternoon, when National Police officers confronted deputies and other “defenders” of the Magna Carta with tear gas .

The incident began when Leonel Fernandez’s supporters , together with some of the PRM and the PRSC and other protesters, were preparing to set up a tent that would serve as a camp for those demonstrating against the constitutional reform.

Police officers, commanded by General Máximo Báez Aybar, told the demonstrators that they would be allowed to install the tent, but that was not the case.
