Dominican Republic: Factory worries about adulterated drinks in Moca

At least 15 factories of alcoholic beverages operate clandestinely in courtyards of residences in neighborhoods and rural locations of this municipality, according to reports that reached this reporter.

According to reports, these factories are located in the neighborhoods of La Española, Los López, Isla Saona and Viejo Puerto Rico, the municipality of San Víctor de Moca, and in the rural community of Tierra Dura. The manufacturers of these adulterated beverages and without any quality control sell them in commercial establishments such as grocery stores, bars and hotels on the North Coast, to the detriment of the Dominican rum industry.

According to reports, many of those who engage in this illegal practice would be operating under the protection of certain police and judicial authorities, who instead of prosecuting counterfeiters of drinks charge a “toll” to turn a blind eye.
