Dominican Republic: Constitutionalists concerned about judicialization of party crisis

Three constitutional lawyers yesterday expressed their concern about the tendency that has emerged in the country to judicialize conflicts and crises of political parties in the high courts.

For the constitutionalist lawyers Eduardo Jorge Prats , Cristóbal Rodríguez and Nassef Perdomo , this tendency in the Electoral and Constitutional courts is due to the inability of political parties to resolve their internal conflicts.

Another worrying element for these experts is that the criticisms of decisions by the courts, often fall into exaggerations imply a de-legitimization of the organ.

Given these situations, in his opinion, with the passage of time the capacity of the political bodies and the Central Electoral Board will be compressed to solve the problems that will arise before the elections of the year 2020.
