Political parties are not satisfied with the statements by director Ginmardo Kromosoeto of the Surinamese Postal Savings Bank (SPSB) and the Central Bank of Suriname (CBvS) that there is nothing wrong with SPSB. Only an in-depth investigation by the competent authorities, such as the CBvS, could establish that.
On various occasions, the NPS, DA’91, DOE and VHP last weekend called on the authorities to take their responsibility. DA’91 even thinks that director Kromosoeto should be put out of function pending the investigation, so that the intended investigation can take place unhindered.
The party leader of the NDP has meanwhile also indicated that they are looking forward to independent research and that they will await the result. He believes, however, that party politics is involved with this issue. Last week, trade union leader Robby Berenstein announced that there may be widespread cheating with government money that is deposited into a special bank account of the Ministry of Finance at the SPSB. Questions from the VHP and DOE group members were asked about this by letter to the president.
