Trinidad: CoP to revamp OCIU

TWO years after the Organised Crime, Narcotics and Firearms Bureau merged with the Criminal Gang and Intelligence Unit (CGIU), to form the Organised Crime and Intelligence Unit (OCIU), Police Commissioner Gary Griffith is seeking to change the organisational framework yet again.

Speaking at the weekly media briefing yesterday, Griffith said he have seen “the ball drop a few times” by the OCIU and was restructuring the intelligence unit so its information will be better shared throughout the TTPS.

“Police can only operate based on intelligence and the main unit for that was the OCIU,” Griffith said adding his plans are awaiting approval and if it is granted, the operation of the intelligence unit will change.
