Rapper YNW Melly is facing the death penalty for the alleged killing of two friends last year, court records show.
The once-rising artist, whose real name is Jamell Demons, committed two cold-blooded murders for financial gain, the Broward County, Florida, State Attorney’s Office said in its notice of intent to seek capital punishment.
The crimes were “especially heinous, atrocious, or cruel,” according to the court document filed last week.
Miramar police arrested the Kanye West collaborator in February in connection with the fatal shootings of his friends Christopher Thomas Jr., 19, and Anthony Williams, 21.
Authorities say the 19-year-old and his pal Cortlen Henry, 20, tried to cover up the Oct. 26, 2018, slaying by staging the crime scene to look like a drive-by shooting.
