Dominican Republic: Internet Society in the DR rejects the JCE Social Network Observatory

The Chapter of the Internet Society in the Dominican Republic (ISOC-DO), rejected the creation of Observatory of Social Networks to “monitor and decide what is a negative message” about a candidate considering it a risk against the fundamental rights of the population.

The ISOC-DO  expressed its rejection of Article 44.6, supporting the unconstitutionality appeal filed by the Press and Law Foundation before the Constitutional Court.

He considered that article 44.6 penalizes the media, instead of the content of the message, and that this affects fundamental rights such as freedom of expression,  which, according to these, opens the door to an uncertain and dangerous road for the control of the internet, and in this case, of social networks.
