NYC: Five members of ‘Jack Boyz’ gang charged with wounding off-duty NYPD cop in Bronx shootout: prosecutors

Five reputed Bronx gang bangers were charged Wednesday in the wounding an off-duty cop during a wild shootout with rivals last year.

Members of the “Jack Boyz” face federal attempted murder and weapons charges for the Oct. 30, 2018 shooting at E. 137th St. near Brook Ave. in Mott Haven, authorities said.

A 33-year-old NYPD officer, assigned to the 43rd Precinct, was driving a fellow cop home when the bullets started flying around midnight.

The officer threw his car in reverse and backed away but was caught in the crossfire and suffered a graze in the shoulder, according to NYPD pictures. A total of 14 shots were fired, cops said. Footage of the shooting released by the police department showing four suspects in the gun battle.

Prosecutors charged Patrick (Pat) Avila, Jalen (Jay Gunz) Colds, Nazae (Zae) Blanche, Donnell (Nellz) Jenkins and Leon (Smoove) Smalls — with attempted murder in aid of racketeering, as well as use of a firearm in furtherance of crime. They face a maximum of life in prison if convicted. Smalls remains at large.
