NYC: Bronx man gets 12 years for brutal beat down in fight over fire hydrant

A Bronx man who brutally bludgeoned another man with a baseball bat — and then backed his car over him — will spend 12 years behind bars for the vicious attack, prosecutors announced Tuesday.

Julio Mendez-Santana, 23, joined four other men in the beat down of Jibrail Wirts, 33, in Mullaly Park at River Ave. and McClellan St., in Concourse, June 25, 2017, prosecutors said.

Wirts was attending a birthday party in the park when he got into an argument with Mendez-Santana over the use of a fire hydrant, prosecutors said.

“The defendant took things to an extremely violent level by beating the victim with a baseball bat, and — as he lay unconscious — backing a car over the victim,” Bronx D.A. Darcel Clark said.
