The World Tourism Organization (UNWTO) will today hold its second Global Conference on Jobs and Inclusive Growth focusing on Small and Medium Tourism Enterprises (SMTEs) at the Montego Bay Conference Centre in St James.
The aim of the conference, whose keynote speaker will be Alvaro Uribe Velez, former president of Colombia, is to identify ways to foster the growth and development of SMTE’s.
“It’s about bringing financiers to meet with the young, small, medium entrepreneurs and the not-so-young entrepreneurs as well,” explained Edmund Bartlett, Jamaica’s minister of tourism. “But the emphasis is on size because we want to enable a greater link between the capital available for lending and the ideas that these entrepreneurs are generating.”
Bartlett went on to say that there was an added component to the conference which involved some technical and academic arrangement that would educate entrepreneurs on how to convert their ideas into material value.
The conference will assemble both local and international financiers as well as leading minds related to business and tourism to conceptualise blueprints for development and success.
