Dominican Republic: The Santo Domingo Metro celebrates its 10th anniversary this Tuesday

This January 29, the Metro Santo Domingo celebrates 10 years. Its first line was inaugurated on January 29, 2009 in the management of then President Leonel Fernández, then in 2013 it was added the 2A and in 2018 the 2B.

“During its ten years, the Metro has transported 515,162,772 million users, experiencing every year a significant increase in a constant manner. Today, from January 1 to 27, the Metro has transported 6, 417,571 passengers, “said the Office for the Reordering of Transport (Opret).

The entity explained that the service of the Metro, which joins from north to south and east to west the Great Santo Domingo, joined the Santo Domingo Cable Car.

He also said that the Metro fare has remained unchanged since its entry into operation in 2009. The price of each trip on the Metro is 20 pesos per person, “this represents a saving of approximately 20% of the minimum wage.”
