Antigua: Cedar Grove woman charged in near $60K drug bust

Chanel Jeniene Abbott of Cedar Grove has been charged with possession of cannabis and possession with intent to transfer 14.69 pounds of the drug which carries an estimated wholesale value of EC $58,760, a release from Office of National Drug and Money laundering Control Policy (ONDCP) said yesterday.

Abbott was one of two female occupants of an apartment complex who were detained on Monday. According to the release, the women were held when the ONDCP officers, with assistance from other law enforcement partners, conducted an operation inthe Cedar Grove area which led to the discovery of a barrel containing compressed cannabis.

The contraband was concealed inside several boxes of detergent that were hidden among food items. Additionally, portions of the drug were also discovered in other areas in the apartment and the environs immediately outside the apartment where the search warrant was executed. Abbott is expected to be arraigned in the Magistrate’s Court to answer to the charges.
