Trinidad: BUS STOP-Drivers refuse to work without inspections

SAN FERNANDO Public Transport Service Corporation (PTSC) bus drivers refused to take the wheel on Wednesday morning, after learning the buses did not have vehicle inspection certificates.

With the Minister of Works Rohan Sinanan impressing upon all drivers to have their vehicles inspected on time or face the penalty, the bus drivers said they were fearful that should they be stopped by the police, they would have to face the hefty $5,000 fine and the likelihood of losing points in their licence.

Spokesperson and union assistant secretary for the San Fernando branch Romesh Sonilal said with none of the buses having the vehicle inspection stickers, drivers refused to work.

Some 100 drivers stood outside the bus terminal and located nearby were approximately 57 parked buses.
