IT was quite a scurry yesterday at Western Union locations in Cross Roads and downtown Kingston as last-minute customers formed long lines, extending outside entrances to the already packed establishments, in an effort to collect money sent by relatives and friends from abroad.
Customers, some of whom had been waiting up to an hour-and-a-half yesterday, told the Jamaica Observer that Christmas Eve turned out to be the worst day to collect money.
“Mi never see dis yet. Yesterday and today again. Mi never see so much people stand up outside and a wait fi guh inside. But mi affi stand up and wait ’cause mi have mi business fi guh do today (yesterday), so mi affi stand up and wait for di likkle money,” said Claudette Griffiths, who was waiting in line outside the door of the Western Union location in Cross Roads.
