A gun-toting crook used a rolling suitcase to roll $45,000 in loot out of a Verizon store — and he then rolled away in a yellow taxi, cops said Monday.
The five-figure heist at the Financial District cell phone and electronics shop was captured on surveillance cameras.
The hood entered the Verizon Wireless store on Broadway at Whitehall St. on Nov. 29 at about 7:45 p.m. and showed a gun to a 26-year-old worker.
He ordered the employee to lock the store’s doors, and then forced him to open a safe in the back.
The robber filled his suitcase and the worker’s backpack with merchandise. He also grabbed $400 from the register, cops said.
The thief ran west onto nearby Beaver St. There, he hailed an SUV taxi and calmly hoisted the apparently heavy suitcase into the trunk. He then got into the taxi, which drove off south on Broadway, said police.
