An off-duty cop was shot when two groups opened fire on each other on a Bronx street early Tuesday, police said.
The 33-year-old officer, who is assigned to the 43rd Precinct, was driving another cop home when the bullets began flying on E. 137th St. near Brook Ave. in Mott Haven around 12:05 a.m.,authorities said.
As the shots whizzed by, the cop stopped his car, threw it in reverse and backed away, but one of the rounds grazed his right shoulder, cops said.
“A bullet fired between two separate groups came through his car window and struck him,” Police Commissioner James O’Neill said. “He immediately drove out of the line of fire and notified uniformed cops located not too far away.”
