Disgraced ex-assemblywoman Pamela Harris was sentenced to six months in federal prison Wednesday for misusing public funds for pampering, partying and panties.
The former Brooklyn pol pleaded guilty in June to stealing of FEMA money on luxuries such as a cruise ship getaway, her Victoria’s Secret tab and a home spa.
“With today’s sentence, Pamela Harris has been held responsible for stealing tens of thousands of dollars in government funds set aside for underserved children and funds allocated for victims of Hurricane Sandy, as well as lying and presenting fraudulent documents to the FBI when her crimes were uncovered,” U.S. Attorney Richard Donoghue said.
“She committed these fraudulent acts both before and while she served as a New York state assemblywoman in Brooklyn, betraying the trust placed in her by her constituents.”
In addition to stealing funds that were supposed to go towards Sandy victims — many of them her own constituents — Harris was also found to have stolen $34,000 in cash provided by the City Council to pay rent on her nonprofit, Coney Island Generation Gap.
Harris also lied to the FBI, a felony punishable by up to five years in prison, and recklessly urged her family members to do the same.
