Police busted two suspects Monday night in a horrifying home invasion robbery and sex assault in the Brooklyn home of a retired NYPD lieutenant.
A third suspect in the case remains at large.
The terrifying crime occurred about 5:30 a.m. Monday in Marine Park. The thugs pistol-whipped and slashed the face of the retired 72-year-old officer and sexually assaulted his wife.
After the assaults, the suspects drove off in the couple’s Honda Civic.
Police also couldn’t find the lieutenant’s gun — leading them to work under the theory that the robbers took it as well, sources said.
Cops caught the two suspects, a 21-year-old man and a 25-year-old woman, Monday night in the stolen car after it emerged from the Brooklyn side of the Brooklyn-Battery Tunnel, police sources said.
Police sources said investigators are looking at the possibility the home invasion is linked to debts amassed by one of the detective’s sons. The son is being treated as a witness to the crime, sources said.
The retired officer’s home was also burglarized in July, a police source said.
Neighbors said the lieutenant’s 47-year-old son suffers from mental illness, possibly bipolar disorder, and is addicted to pills.
