Antigua: Man nabbed in $12 million-dollar drug bust bailed

Nine months after being nabbed with almost $12 million worth of cocaine, Deon Perkins is out of prison, on bail.

On Friday, 42-year-old Deon Perkins of Union Road, Hatton, who was charged with possession, possession with intent to transfer, being concerned with the supply of cocaine and trafficking 286 bricks or 740.8 pounds of cocaine, was bailed.

The contraband carries a wholesale value of $11,807,640.00.

Perkins was arrested by officers of the Office of National Drug and Money Laundering Control Policy (ONDCP) on January 3 at the intersection of the Old Parham Road and Sir George Walter Highway.

On Friday, attorney  Warren Cassell of Daniel, Phillips and Associates, successfully secured bail for the  accused in the sum of $1 million with two Antiguan sureties to sign on his behalf.

Ten pieces of land were put up as security to make sure Perkins is available for all his court dates and trial.

Justice Keith Thom granted bail in the High Court with the terms that Perkins surrender his passport to the court, avoid any contact with the witnesses in the state’s case against him, and report to the Gray’s Farm Police Station every day between 6 a.m. and 6 p.m.
