St. Lucia: Schools designated as shelters on standby as Isaac approaches

As hurricane Isaac approaches the Islands, schools in Saint Lucia that have been designated as hurricane shelters have been asked to be on standby.

In what has been described as a routine measure,  Acting Chief Education Officer Ruffina Charles on Monday issued a notice to all primary and secondary school principals and Education Officers, indicating that on its current path Isaac is expected to begin affecting Saint Lucia ‘by Wednesday into Thursday of this week.”

Charles called on Education Officers to inform all schools to ensure that all documents and books are secure and electrical equipment is covered, unplugged and where possible, elevated off floors.

“More information will be given as it relates to school operations as soon as official information comes from NEMO and MET Services,” the notice said.
