Jamaican-Made Christmas attracts flood of applicants

Registration for this year’s staging of National Baking Company’s A Jamaican-Made Christmas (JMC) opened on Friday, August 31, and already more than 100 applications have been received for consideration, the company reported this week.

“Registration closes October 1, so we are excited about our selection process, even though by all indications it will be another difficult year with so many applicants,” Tiffany Wong, who is in charge of special projects in the office of the chairman at National, told the Jamaica Observer.

“There were no rules this year; registration for consideration is open to everyone, so even if persons participated in previous years, they are welcome to apply again for consideration,” Wong added.

The two-day shopping experience, now in its fourth year, is scheduled for Sunday, November 25 and Monday, November 26 at the Jamaica Pegasus hotel in New Kingston.

Conceptualised by National Baking Company Chairman and CEO Gary “Butch” Hendrickson, the event gives invaluable exposure to small local manufacturers and artisans who use it as a platform to reach larger audiences than their resources may otherwise allow.

Last year, 90 exhibitors were chosen from a flood of more than 200 applicants who have come to realise the true benefits of the event, which also promotes the culture of supporting Jamaican entrepreneurs and products by buying local.
