An 18-year-old man was shot in the groin after a group of West Indian American Day Parade revelers in Brooklyn got into a fight Monday night.
A single gunshot rang out at the corner of Nostrand Ave. and Hawthorne St. in Prospect-Lefferts Gardens at about 7:30 p.m., cops said. Though that corner is several blocks away from the parade route, it was filled with revelers into the evening.
Medics took the victim to Kings County Hospital in stable condition.
“There was a gunshot by the store. He was running, holding himself. The blood was coming from his groin,” said Raymond Hayes, 66, who witnessed the shooting. “It looks like the guy who shot him was aiming at somebody else but missed.”
The gunman tossed his weapon under a car, police sources said.
Police took a man into custody shortly after the shooting, though it’s not clear if he’s the gunman.
