Cops probe baby’s death after mom gives birth in Queens motel room

The NYPD is looking into the death of a premature newborn baby in a Queens motel after the infant’s mom waited several hours before calling 911, police said.

Cops were called to the Days Inn on Queens Blvd. at Van Dam St. in Long Island City shortly after 7:40 p.m. Wednesday. Inside, they found a lifeless baby girl, along with her 35-year-old mom. Medics took the baby to Elmhurst General Hospital, but she couldn’t be saved.

Police believe the girl was born about two months premature, at about 1 a.m. It’s not yet clear whether she was alive at birth or stillborn, cops said.

The mom, who’s been living in the hotel since April, was hospitalized for psychological treatment after she threatened to hurt herself, police said. Cops did not release her name.

Cops also found drug paraphernalia in the room, police said.

The woman has not been charged criminally, and an autopsy will determine the cause of death.
