A Tennessee woman celebrating her anniversary in the Bahamas was killed when a boat full of tourists burst into flame.
Maleka Grimes Jackson and her husband Tyran were on a trip after 15 years together when an explosion the vessel off the coast of the southern island of Exuma.
Ten Americans and two Bahamans were aboard the boat, with four include Tyran Jackson, airlifted to a hospital in Florida and others treated in Nassau.
Grimes Jackson’s father Melvin Grimes told WTVC that the family-oriented mother from Chatanooga had dropped off her 12-year-old son with relatives before heading off for fun in the sun.
Tyran Jackson received serious injuries to his legs, as did another passenger identified as 22-year-old Stefanie Schaffer.
The Vermont native and former dancer had to have both legs amputated at the hospital in the Bahamas, according to her brother.
