A Brooklyn father of four was tragically shot to death early Sunday, hours before he was to meet his children for Father’s Day, family members said.
William Fernandez, 33, was blasted in the chest at Bushwick Ave. and Beaver St. in Bushwick around 12:20 a.m., police said.
Medics rushed Fernandez to Wyckoff Heights Medical Center, but he could not be saved.
His children, three boys and a girl, had made gifts for their dad and were planning to spend a quiet holiday with him at his Bedford-Stuyvesant home, Fernandez’s grieving sister said.
“It sucks,” said Jasmine Fernandez, 31. “It sucks because this day will forever be marked with something more than just happiness — it’s sorrow.
“We lost a father, a brother, a husband, a boyfriend.”
The children’s mother, Fernandez’s ex-girlfriend who lives with the kids, hadn’t told them their father died.
“They don’t know yet. We’re leaving it up to the mother to talk to the kids and tell them,” the man’s sister said.
Relatives couldn’t comprehend why anyone would want to kill Fernandez, a “kind-hearted” family man who was well-known in the neighborhood.
“He had it all. He was good-looking. He was handsome, very well-dressed, very well-respected. He gave his shirt off his back to anyone in need,” Jasmine Fernandez said.
