Two straphangers were caught on cell phone video arguing with each other over race and religion — one of them cursing and shouting — during a wild rush-hour ride.
The Thursday morning screamfest between a black woman and a Jewish man, posted by commuter Chris French on Twitter, erupted over subway etiquette in their crowded Bronx-bound No. 4 subway car.
“You said I’m being racist, so you tell me who I’m being racist towards,” the woman shouted in the video. “Because you’re Jewish, and I said if a Jewish family got on here, somebody would have gotten up. That’s not a racist statement! That is a factual statement!”
“Yes it is racist,” replied the man, who was wearing a yarmulke.
“You need to learn the difference between race,” the woman shot back. “Judaism is not a race. It is a religion.”
“Calm down,” the man pleaded, as others on the train tried to ignore the tirade — or listened intently.
“No. I need to calm down because I’m schooling your ass?” the woman yelled. “You guys think you’re so f—ing smart, but I’m going to teach you a lesson on this f—ing train.”
The man countered: “No ‘you guys.’ I’m a person and you’re a person.”
The woman then escalated her argument to charge that Jewish owners refuse to rent to black tenants.
“No, we’re different. Understand that,” the woman said. “We are different. You know why we’re different? We’re different because your people treat my people different in our community.”
“That’s not true,” the man declared.
“What the f— you talking about?” she yelled back.
The woman continued, “You treat us differently in our community. You don’t even rent to us.”
“I don’t even own a house,” he replied.
“What the f— are you talking about your people?” she continued. “You said I was a racist because I brought up Judaism, so I’m addressing your people.”
