Thirty-four-year-old police officer Stalin Belfon made his first court appearance at the St. George’s Number One Magistrate’s Court on Thursday, charged with possession of a controlled drug.
The police officer was charged jointly with 19-year-old Auto Mechanic Johnell Thomas when the two appeared before Chief Magistrate Tamara Gill.
The two men were arrested when, police, acting on special information intercepted a car they were travelling in and upon conducting a search discovered 228 pounds of marijuana on the back seat and in the trunk of the vehicle.
The drugs carried a street value of EC$517,104.00
Belfon was granted bail in the sum of $200,000.00 with two sureties while Thomas was given bail in the sum of $75,000.00 with two sureties. Both men have to report to the Grenville Police Station on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays between the hours of 6am and 6pm and ordered to surrender all travel documents. Attorney-at-law Francis Paul represented them both.
