Police are questioning a building contractor for allegedly shooting his employee in the head on Sunday during a heated confrontation.
James St. Johns was in police custody yesterday assisting them in their investigation.
The man who was shot in the mouth in Barbuda over the weekend is said to be fighting for his life at the Mount St. John’s Medical Centre up to yesterday.
Police said that the Vincentian national, James Elliott of #3 Cassada Gardens, is in critical but stable condition.
According to reports, the builder is part of a team of contractors working in Barbuda following last September’s passage of Hurricane Irma.
Elliott was shot during an altercation with his boss over money.
A source close to the matter, who did not wish to be named, said that the verbal dispute turned physical before ending in the shooting.
“Because the government was not paying us for work, there was some issues and claims of neck cutting,” one contractor told OBSERVER media.
The source added that when the injured man’s boss came to ask him about allegations of him undermining the company, he refused to give any information.
