A 59-year-old deputy programme manager at the CARICOM Secretariat was shot and robbed of almost $300,000 by a bandit after he had made a withdrawal from the Republic Bank at Triumph, East Coast Demerara (ECD) on Thursday.
Enquiries have revealed that the Atlantic Gardens ECD resident after withdrawing his money, headed home in his motor car. On arrival, a white motor car came from the northern direction and blocked his path; a man then exited the rear seat and pointed a handgun at the manager demanding the bag in his car with the cash.
The victim was then shot above his knee and the bandit grabbed the bag containing the cash before jumping into the getaway car and escaping. The manager was later escorted by the police to the Georgetown Public Hospital, where he is said to be in a stable condition.
